Accessible Prague: overcoming obstacles to exceptional experiences
Prague is taking its place among the great cities that are mindful of people with disabilities. Prague City Tourism has launched a website to assist present and prospective visitors to Prague who have mobility issues. In ‘Accessible Prague’ visitors will find useful and practical information about getting around the city, accommodation, accessible sights, tourist services, convenient shopping centres as well as cultural institutions that have adapted their premises for the needs of visitors with physical or sensory difficulties.
The website also includes tips for accessible restaurants, a private guided tour of the historic Old Town, as well as 8 ready routes for you to explore with detailed advance information about possible challenges. The recommended routes, with varying degrees of difficulty, lead not only through the historical centre, but also through lesser-known yet attractive parts of our city. They can also be a source of inspiration for parents with strollers and seniors with mobility considerations. The routes are also available in downloadable (1 and 2) format, and the first of the two brochures in updated printed form, at the PCT tourist information centres, free of charge.
Also of great help for getting round the city despite one’s reduced mobility is the digital accessibility map of buildings and public spaces. It labels the various buildings as accessible, partially accessible and inaccessible. The map was created in cooperation with the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague, Prague City Hall and the Prague Wheelchair Users Organization.
The website is available in English and German.
Prague City Tourism (PCT) is a joint stock company 100% owned by the Capital City of Prague and is the certified official organization for Prague City Hall destination management. Its main mission is to promote sustainable domestic and inbound international tourism in the capital.
