MOVEMBER – the Moustachioed Month for Male Health

They say flowing locks are the crown and ornament of a woman. Likewise, the beard adorns the man. But that’s not all. A moustache can reveal a lot about its wearer.

More and more these days, we can see strange developments on the faces of many men. Carefully grown goatees and perfectly trimmed beards are giving way, the sideburns are shortening, cheeks are smoothing, the stubble gone. There’s one remaining hipster sanctuary, right under your nose. For the moustache.

November brings not only the joys of bright autumn hues, flying kites and fast approaching Christmas. These 30 autumn days are dedicated to the topic of male health – specifically, health awareness, for the prevention of prostate and testicular cancer, the concomitant psychological problems and, tragically, suicides. The moustache has come to be a strong symbol underlining the cause, drawing attention to these still taboo diseases, a mark of solidarity with all those who are struggling with their troubling diagnosis.

The Capital City of Prague has this year joined the global campaign. Together with the Men Against Cancer Foundation, the City has organized a “Movember” exhibition on Mariánské náměstí square, as this year’s focal point. It will run throughout November. Let’s not forget that this prickly topic is not just about faceless strangers, but also our partners, husbands, fathers, brothers, our friends... and not to beat about the bush – one month with a moustache is nothing to bristle about. Who knows, you may even find ‘tashing quite dashing, and keep it...
