Bygone Podskalí and life on the Vltava River
- 8. 6. 2016 – 31. 12. 2018
The exposition in the Podskalí customs house, a peerless Renaissance building with a timber-built superstructure, built in the 16th century, offers visitors the chance to get to know its original purpose, namely the levying of customs duties on the lumber rafted downstream to Prague. As a reminder of bygone times at Podskalí we also get to see mementos of swimmers, timber merchants, rafters, sandmen, icemen and other “river folk”. The exposition also focuses on documenting the changes to the Vltava River in Prague as a transport route, presenting traditional rafting and the rise of commercial shipping.
