Last Year in Marienbad. A Film as Art
- 7. 9. 2016 – 27. 11. 2016
In autumn 2016, Galerie Rudolfinum will present an exhibition based on a movie by the French director Alain Resnais – Last Year in Marienbad from 1961. This film marked its place in history more than any other as a free adaptation of the French genre of a new novel created by Alain Robbe-Grillet. Going against the traditional structure of time, place and a plot, the story evolves on the background of a remarkable meeting of a man and a woman in a luxurious hotel and is further disturbed by an intentional fragmentation and discontinuity of the narrative.
The exhibition LAST YEAR IN MARIENBAD has been created and shown for the first time in the Kunsthalle Bremen. The display includes art works from the beginning of the 20th century until the present and are inspired by the movie together with the aesthetics of the New Wave in film from the sixties. Moreover, the exhibition introduces the history around the creation and realisation of this iconic film by means of authentic hand-written film scripts and notes, decoration design, film scenes and posters.
