February a fun month to visit Prague? Yes, indeed! Forget all about the cold during the festive month of Carnevale.
Prague Carnevale 2017 will be held from February 17th till February 28th 2017.
This annual festival is inspired by the colourful festivities held in Bohemia by the local aristocracy during the Baroque era – think Amadeus-style.
Bohemian Carnevale takes place all over the city; there are costumed street parades, concerts and dance performances, opulent masked balls, children’s balls, programmes and workshops, special menus and more...
The carnival procession of masks sets off from Clam-Gallas Palace, making its way through the King's Road, Karlova Street and Malé náměstí, and arrives in front of Old Town Hall, where the masks will collectively await permission to enter the city and celebrate the most colourful part of the year, Carnevale (also known as Carnival or Mardi Gras, and called Masopust in Czech). The procession will then triumphantly move to Old Town Square, where the Gathering of Masks will continue. The festivities also include a contest for Best Mask and the Race of the Golden Pig.
