Genesis is a travelling exhibition which is presented by the prestigious galleries around the world. It is the third project of the renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado. The exhibition draws together more than 200 spectacular black and white photographs of arctic and desert landscapes, tropical rainforests, marine and other wildlife, and indigenous peoples — raising public awareness about the pressing issues of environment and climate change. The exhibition is divided into five geographical regions: Sanctuaries, Planet South, Africa, Amazonia and Pantanal, and Northern Spaces.
Sebastião Salgado (born in Brazil in 1944) began his career as a professional photographer in Paris. For the first time, he exhibited in Prague in autumn 2001. In Manes, there was displayed his cycle called Exodus - more than 300 photographs documenting the hopes and fears of individuals caught in the waves of human migration. In 2005, the Leica Gallery Prague presented his cycle Workers unveiling the pain, the beauty, and the brutality of the world of work.
