Mother Tongue” (Mateřština) presents the brilliant double bassist and composer Jiří Slavík in the role of a singer and multi-instrumentalist in search of his cultural roots, implementing folk music heritage in his own contemporary works. Mother Tongue is a unparalleled synthesis of heart and mind. The project offers a wide array of emotions, compositional finesse, raw veracity, and impeccable interpretation. Besides being a musical genius, Jiří Slavík is also an authentic artist in search of truth both within and in the world without. Like the Strings of Autumn, Slavík cares not for any boundaries of style and certainly does not let them hamper him in the slightest. Mother Tongue the album, which was released by Animal Music, was recorded almost completely in solo, but his live performance at the festival will feature master performers from the military art ensemble Ondráš and other guests.
