Rudolf Firkušný Piano Festival - Angrei Gavrilov
Rudolfinum, Alšovo nábřeží 79/12, Praha 1 - Staré Město, 110 00
- 19. 11. 2017
Because of the uniqueness of his approach, many regard Gavrilov as one of the most original pianists of our time. Already at the age of 18, he won first prize at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and that was followed by an appearance at the Salzburg festival. His debut recital at Carnegie Hall attracted enormous interest, and the critics were unsparing in their use of superlatives: “He plays not merely the piano but the music. He achieves a singing tone in lyrical passages. He uses the pedal generously but with sensitive gradations, not merely up and down. His control of a wide range of dynamics, from very loud to very soft, is consistently impressive.” (New York Times) In Prague, the artist, who was harshly persecuted by the Soviet secret police (KGB) in the 1970s, will be performing works by Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt.
