Ludmila Jandová: Between Heaven and Earth

Museum Montanelli presents the work of the newly discovered Czech painter Ludmila Jandová. Her work places the emphasis on the moral and spiritual values of the human race.
Empathy, humility and the protection of her fellowmen or neighbours are typical of her art. From the end of the 1950s until the mid 1980s she is largely dealing with human thinking and also with the animal world and the role of the individual within it. In the 1960s, apart from the landscape, she was also engaged with space whose rendition she integrates into her other work, in which she returns to the community, family and motherhood and their destiny on a regular basis. In the 1980s she works with crayon and graphics which point to the imaginary and meditative.
Ludmila does not perceive the world, nor her mission within it as a challenge, but as a God-given, unmistakeable being to whom she has declared herself and which has become part of her own faith and concept of the world. She unceasingly searched for new artistic forms of expression and even those gloomy, inevitable moments she accepted as a part of her personal and creative life. The inner rendering and creatively conceived and described fate of all those kinds of community thus become a prayer and intercession for the lives of all of us…
