The most famous tragedy of all times in the French Lyric Opera.
In the mid-19th century great French opera was represented by no other than Meyerbeer–Auber–Halévy, producing splendid performances with the best ensembles, ballet, as well as choral sections, all blended together with comic opera in order to create one of the most remarkable syntheses — lyrical drama. Emphasized emotionality and romantic emotions together with dance scenes are clearly visible within Thomas’ Hamlet. The torn psyche of the Danish prince and his sentimental lover, Ophelia, is reflected through highly ambitious sung passages complemented by original orchestration. Betrayal and murder of his father, the mysterious apparition of his ghost, the dance of death's head above the grave of the lover… That’s the question!
