Alena Foustková: Women Must Cover Their Heads Because They Are Not the Image of God

As part of its programme, the Kampa Museum regularly presents works by artists who have lived a significant part of their lives in emigration. This is no different in the case of multimedia artist Alena Foustková (*1957).

In her exhibition entitled Women Must Cover Their Heads Because They Are Not the Image of God, she deals with female trauma on several levels. In individual objects, embroideries, assemblages and video projections, the artist's personal traumas collide with the collective female experience. Some of the works then take us to the roots of Christian teachings, twisted by centuries of adulterous interpretations, which in many ways have become a tool for the mass repression of women.
