The St Clara Vineyard (Vinice sv. Kláry)

The current vineyard has recently undergone extensive renovation and you will find it in Prague’s Troja district as a part of the Botanical gardens. The vineyard includes a wine trail where you can take a walk past all the major grape varieties grown in the Czech Republic. In the Vintner’s House you’ll find a wine themed exhibition and get a chance to sample some local wines.

Practical information

Wines from St Clara have since 2009 been processed at the vineyard itself in the newly built modern cellars. The wine made here comes from the grape varieties of Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon, Blue Portugal, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The local speciality is a cuvée called “Bílé z Botanické” (White from the Botanical Gardens).

The history of the vineyard dates back probably to the 13th century to the reign of Wenceslas II. In the 14th century the vineyard partook in the wine boom triggered by the Edicts of Charles IV on the establishing of vineyards on all suitable slopes within 3 miles from Prague.
