Prachovské skály – the fairytale rock formations of Bohemian Paradise

The fairy-tale landscape of Bohemian Paradise, which includes the Prachovské skály rocks, is listed among UNESCO Geoparks. The ‘rock town’, the residual part of a sandstone plateau, is broken up by ravines and gorges with an abundance of slender rock pinnacles and pillars, and is a popular destination for hikers and climbers alike. The starting point of your trip can be the nearby charming town of Jičín.

When:

Round about the April to October period, or in nice hiking weather. Due to the site’s great popularity we recommend visiting the rocks outside of July and August, when visitor numbers are at their height.

How to get here:

As a starting point for the trip we recommend the town of Jičín, reachable by a direct bus line from Prague. The journey takes less than 1.5 hours. The location can be reached either on foot along marked tourist trails about 6 to 7 km long, or by bus service from Jičín, which runs from May to October. The rocks are also reachable from Jinolice train station. The journey of some 3.5 km takes you around the Jinolice ponds to the Prachov rocks. However, this option is more time-consuming, requiring a change in Jičín, taking the journey time to 2 to 2.5 hours in all.
