Christmas Hours of Operation
The pre-Christmas period in Prague is one of the most beautiful...as well as one of the most hectic. But as evening approaches on Christmas Eve, like magic, everything winds down, the bustle in the streets quiets, and Praguers gather together with their families for the traditional meal. The Prague public transportation, train and bus timetables are also affected: connection frequencies on Christmas Eve are reduced, while on New Year’s Eve, they’re increased. Many cultural institutions, monuments, and tourist centers have special opening hours during the holidays.
Shopkeepers also have modified opening hours: in accordance with the law, hypermarkets and large shops over 200 m2 must close no later than noon on December 24 and remain closed on December 25 and 26; they are also closed on January 1. This requirement does not affect pharmacies, gas stations, or smaller shops. Hospitals will be open for emergencies only.
We here at Prague City Tourism wish all of you a very joyful and peaceful Christmas and all the best in 2018.
