The 26th edition of the Prague International Film Festival - Febiofest will take place in Prague from March 21 until March 29, 2019.

This edition will bring a number of world famous names to Prague, including the US film star Peter Fonda, who will attend the festival’s gala opening on March 00, 2019. He will join Danish director Bille August or French actor-director Louis Garrel.

The festival will be opened by the latest film of Robert Redford The Old Man & The Gun. The closing film will be a drama based on events in the life of the famous comedic duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

The festival’s main competition section, New Europe, features 10 pictures by emerging European filmmakers such as Kosta Ristić’s Bandits in Search of Mom, Sebastian Brauneis’ Sorcerer, Steve Krikris‘ The Waiter, João Salaviza and Renée Nader Messora‘s The Dead and the Others, Oskars Rupenheits’ The Foundation of Criminal, Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson‘s The Cake General, Karen Gillan‘s The Party’s Just Beginning, Isabella Eklöf’s Holiday, Liina Trishkina-Vanhatalo’s Take It Or Leave It, Teodor Kuhn‘s By a Sharp Knife.

The Made in USA section turns the spotlight on US independent filmmakers and small pictures that have a distinctive direction and a personal view of their protagonists.

Another highlight is the Master's section presenting the latest work by distinctive auteur personalities of today's cinema.

Asian View, Balkan echoes, Central Park, Centropa, Classics, Docs, Generation, Night Circus, Northern Lights, Panorama, Profile: Queer Now, TV Now are the names of the other sections presenting diverse films including dramas, disaster, fiction and sci-fi movies, comedies, current trends as well as classical works.

A rich accompanying programme including Culinary Cinema nights offering three evenings of film and dining is also planned for this year.


In recent years, FEBIOFEST has hosted renowned directors and actors such as Nanni Moretti, Claude Lelouch, Peter Weir, Olivier Assayas Roman Polanski, Volker Schloendorff, Isztvan Szabo, Tsai Ming-Liang, Tom Tykwer, Hal Hartley, Andrey Konchalovski, Armin Mueller Stahl, Nikita Michalkov, Carlos Saura or Claudia Cardinale.
