National Gallery in Prague – Trade Fair Palace (Národní galerie v Praze – Veletržní palác), Dukelských hrdinů 47, Praha 7 - Holešovice, 170 00
A NEW EXPOSITION WILL BE OPENED ON OCTOBER 28, 2018.
The exhibition project the First Republic presents fine art works, design gems and literature pieces which were created within the period 1918-1938. The exhibits are partially from the collections of the National Gallery in Prague, however, some of them are also from other institutions or private collections.
The aim of the project is not just to put on display fine art works created in this particular period, rather the organisers want to present art through the eyes of an art lover who lived in that time. Therefore, visitors will find out more about crucial art associations, organisations, institutions and galleries of that time. Furthermore, the exposition will include partial re-constructions of the most famous exhibitions of that time – such as the Stubborns (Tvrdošijní), The Exhibition of Contemporary Culture in Brno (Výstava soudobé kultury v Brně), Poesie 32, The First Surrealistic Exhibition in Czechoslovakia (První výstava Surrealistů v ČSR).
Last but not least, distinguished persons connected with fine art will be presented, with the highlight on the cosmopolitan and multi-ethnical nature of the First Republic.
