A collection of porcelain, glass in other items was acquired by the City of Prague Museum shortly before the Hotel Praha’s demolition.
The Hotel was built for the needs of the Communists Party and was considered as the most extravagant building in Prague for a quite a long time. It featured sweeping curves, stainless steel, polished marble, spacious public areas and majestic staircases and its interior was decorated by many artists such as Stanislav Libenský, Jaroslava Brychtová, Pavel Hlava, Zbyněk Hřivnáč, Karel Volf, Benjamin Hejlek or Antonín Hepnar.
Among the guests were Nicolae Ceausecu, Eric Honecker, Leonid Brezhnev. Tom Cruise lodged here during the shooting in 1996 of the film “Mission: Impossible”.
