Jan Lukas: Czechoslovakian Diary / The Story of A Photographer and His Homeland
Artinbox Gallery, Perlová 3, Praha - Staré Město, 110 00
- Fri 26. 10. 2018 – Thu 10. 1. 2019
The exhibition of Jan Lukas pictures is dedicated to the 100th anniversary from the Declaration of Czechoslovakia. He captures the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic – life in the First Republic, two totalitarian regimes and the euphory of 90s – all of this on the background of his life story.
Jan Lukas was a pioneer of modern photography; already in the 1930s, he ranked among the photographers active internationally and working for European magazines. His exile in the mid-1960s meant that in the twenty-five years that followed his work was banned from publication in his homeland.
