- Thu 1. 11. 2018 – Sun 29. 9. 2019
Marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the exhibition focuses on the relationship of two remarkable female cultural figures of the 1920s and 1930s – the textile artist Božena Horneková/Rothmayerová and the presidential daughter Alice Masaryková. The formation of the ‘Modern Woman’ style, which Božena Horneková/Rothmayerová presented in the form of a model system of clothing at the exhibition Civilised Woman in Brno at the turn of 1929 and 1930, is recognised as the crucial stage of their collaboration.
Working together with Alice Masaryková, Božena Horneková/Rothmayerová had an opportunity to contribute textile features to the interiors of Prague Castle as well as other presidential residences in Lány, Topolčianky, and Bystrička. Based on surviving correspondence and archival materials, the exhibition presents various areas of Alice Masaryková’s activities in which Božena Horneková/Rothmayerová participated, either directly or indirectly.
