Charles Bridge Museum (Muzeum Karlova mostu), Křižovnické náměstí 3, Praha 1 - Staré Město, 110 00
- Sun 2. 12. 2018 – Sun 3. 2. 2019
The nativity scene is an integral part of church and domestic Christmas decorations and is replicated in all imaginable artistic styles and materials. Before the Christmas tree was widely used in the 19th century, the nativity scene was the focus of the Christmas celebration.
At this exhibition, visitors can admire interesting nativity scenes as well as find out how the tradition of bringing a tree into the home at Christmas time originated. They will see the famous straw nativity scene featuring life-sized figures, the unusual Vltava Fish Nativity Scene with humanized figures representing the fauna of Czech ponds and rivers, an African nativity scene from mahogany, and more. They will explore how people around the world decorate their Christmas tree and what they unwrap under the tree.
