Toward eternal womanhood we are lifted…
One of the most distinctive contemporary European directors and recent recipient of European Theatre Prize (most prestigious European theatre distinction) Jan Klata and one of the most provocative and essential works of European culture… All of us have a conceptof evil — some try to face it, some cynically take advantage of it, some are fascinated by it, some follow it unknowingly. But what is the concept of good nowadays? What does Faust’s story of confident search for humanity and the effort to uncover the core of life and law of nature convey the contemporary world? Does hope still exist?
In 2018, Jan Klata directed Shakespear’s Measure for measure in Divadlo pod Palmovkou, which is regarded as one of the best works of Czech theater. His production of Faust is based on both parts of Goethe’s dramatic poem.
