Tracing the footsteps of Josef Mysliveček

Prague native Josef Mysliveček was a real superstar of his time. He became the most sought-after opera composer in Italy, collaborating with the most famous singers, socializing with powerful nobles and influencing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself. His music, resounding with energy, inventiveness and emotional depth, fascinates listeners to this day. In less than fifteen years he composed 26 Italian operas, 8 oratorios and numerous other works. His operas were performed on royal birthdays and holidays and featured the greatest singing stars. At the time when Mozart was trying to establish himself in Italy, Josef Mysliveček was his friend and mentor, and the young Mozart was directly inspired by his compositions.

IL BOEMO

Director Petr Václav’s film IL BOEMO tells the story of Mysliveček’s dazzling career in Italy. It stars Vojtěch Dyk, Elena Radonicich, Barbara Ronchi, Lana Vlady and Federica Vecchio. The music for the film was recorded by the Collegium 1704 orchestra under the leadership of Václav Luks with world-class soloists Philippe Jaroussky, Emöke Baráth, Simona Šaturová and Raffaella Milanesi.
