Štvanice island

Štvanice Island lies in the Holešovice bend of the Vltava River, a part of the river that used to be rather shallow, causing a series of islands to form. Once the city began regulating the flow of the river, the islands gradually disappeared. Štvanice is one of the few that remained – it was dubbed “Great Venice” and in its time, it was a centre of entertainment, walks, and culture. Today it is home to a renowned tennis centre and is awaiting further development as a sports centre.
