Statue of Jan Žižka
The monument was unveiled in 1950 on the anniversary of the battle on Vítkov (1420), in which the Hussites under the leadership of Jan Žižka defeated the Crusaders' troops in this place. The bronze monument has admirable size: it is 22 m high including the pedestal and the total weight is 16.5 t. It is one of the biggest equestrian statues in the world.

Object history
The National Monument on Vítkov; made by prof. Bohumil Kafka in 1931-1941. The monument was unveiled in 1950 on the anniversary of the battle on Vítkov, in which the Hussites under the leadership of Jan Žižka defeated the Crusaders' troops in this place.
The bronze monument has admirable size: it is 22 m high including the pedestal, the two legs of the rider weigh 398 kg, the hand 195 kg, the head 105 kg and the sword 110 kg. The height of the monument is 9 m, the length of the horse 9.6 m and the total weight is 16.5 t.
The model for the figure of Žižka was the Prague wrestler Jiránek and the Ministry of Agriculture lent the sculptor the most beautiful horse from the horse-breeding farm in Tlumačov as a model for the horse. It was very difficult to calculate the statics of such a huge and heavy monument, which was done by Professor Bedřich Hacar.
