Cabinet of Curiosities

The Strahov Cabinet of Curiosities was bought for Strahov from the estate of Baron Karel Jan Eben in 1798. The so called Cabinets of Curiosities (Wunderkammer) are the direct ancestors of modern museums. Their collections reflect the Rudolfine Renaissance period with its interest in mystery and curiosities and the beginnings of a systematic approach to science. The Cabinet of Curiosities in the Strahov Monastery brings together archaeological excavations, natural history collections, glass, china, artisan craft objects, weapons and even a model warship from the 16th century.
