Cintamani and Birds is a Czech tale by Karel Čapek which is based upon a real story that happened in 20´s. That time, this distinguished Czech writer and dramatist was interested in oriental carpets. In one Prague´s shop he recognised the collective value of one white Anatolian piece but he did not manage to buy it.

In 2014, almost 90 years after Karel Čapek had admired this unique carpet, it was acquired by the National Gallery. It was proved, that this Bird' Carpet of Selendi was created in the western Turkey at the second half of the 16th century and nowadays it is one of the oldest oriental carpets in Czech collections.

In order to be put on display, it was restored. This process is shown at the photographs nearby. Other exhibits relate mostly to the Čapek´s interest in oriental carpets.
